A bypass nearly 11 kilometres long is under construction near Svilajnac, and its first phase includes a new bridge over the Great Morava. The works, worth about three billion dinars, or 25 million euros, are financed by the Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure. Work is currently focused on the bridge piers. The contractor, a consortium led by Srbija Autoput, has promised to finish the bridge by April or May next year while building the connecting road section in parallel so the bridge can open to traffic. Once completed, travel in the area will be shorter and the regional economy is expected to benefit; a railway bridge is planned later.
