Several objects believed to be explosive ordnance were spotted by a bridge pier on the Sava at Sremska Rača, and navigation was immediately banned along a 10-kilometre stretch.

Dragan Mijailović, head of the Sremska Rača port authority, told Tanjug they are probably artillery shells from World War II that were not fired but simply dumped into the river. Part of them lie on the shipping lane, so the ban is meant to prevent a vessel from accidentally setting them off.

The authority will ask for the exact number of devices to be established and for a plan to remove them.
