The Serbian government has declared 2027 the year of Saint Despot Stefan Lazarević. The decision was adopted on 15 October and published in the Official Gazette on 16 October.

The ministries of culture, education, science, information and tourism must adopt commemorative programmes by the end of 2026. Projects linked to the year will have priority, and other state bodies and local authorities can take part.

2027 marks six centuries since the death of Despot Stefan Lazarević, the ruler of Serbia in the late 14th and early 15th centuries, who moved the capital to Belgrade and supported learning and monasteries.
